Paint Drop-Off Program

WSWMD offers year round, free disposal of paints, stains, urethanes, and enamels through the paint collection program at The WSWMD Facility on Old Ferry Road in Brattleboro.  Just bring in your paints during its open hours and the scale house attendant will help you.

What's accepted: Paints (except latex), stains, urethanes, and enamels. Please, only 10 gallons per visit.

What's not accepted (bring to a HHW collection):

  • NO: marine paints
  • NO: epoxy
  • NO: thinners
  • NO: solvents
  • NO: latex paint (see below)
Latex paint
We cannot accept latex unless it can be reused, then bring it to the Swap Shop at the WSWMD Facility during its open season. Latex is NOT accepted at our household hazardous waste days, either.

Latex paint can be dried out and disposed of in the trash. First, let the latex paint dry out by removing the paint can lids. If there is a lot of paint left over, add kitty-litter or sawdust as a quick absorbent. When the paint has hardened, replace the lid and throw the can in the trash.

Note: the container cannot be recycled even if the hardened paint is removed. Paint residue will contaminate the tin during the recycling process.
