Swap Shop at the WSWMD Facility

The WSWMD Swap Shop begins winter hours on November 17, 2007.
  • Open second Saturday of each month, weather permitting
    9:00am - 12:00 Noon
    Dec 8 (07); Jan 12 (08); Feb 9; March 8; Apr 12
  • Due to the need to close promptly at noon, large loads of donations may not be accepted after 11:45am.
  • At the WSWMD Facility on Old Ferry Rd: Directions.
  • Summer hours will return in the spring. (Summer hours are every Saturday 8:30am - 12:00 Noon.)
There is a separate
Online Swap Shop
available year round.

Purpose
The Swap Program exists to provide an outlet for materials that are still usable, but for which there is no traditional re-use program, such as a thrift store or consignment shop. People are requested to use all available outlets (thrift stores, flea markets, non-profit agencies, consignment shops) before bringing materials to the Swap Program. Anyone is welcome to bring materials or to take materials. It is not necessary to do both. Items have to be in working order. Dealers are discouraged from using the Swap Program to stock their inventories.

Materials Accepted
The Swap Program volunteers will decide whether or not the material presented may be accepted as the WSWMD does not want the Swap Program to become a free dumping ground. Items must be in working condition. This list will be updated from time to time, so call to check if you have something questionable to bring in. (During winter hours there may be stricter limits on items that can be accepted due to space considerations.)

  • Construction materials: eg. doors, windows, lumber, bricks, blocks, electric wire, outlet boxes
  • Non-upholstered furniture
  • Lawn and garden furniture and equipment
  • Household items: eg dishes, kitchen ware, lamps, frames, utensils
  • Plumbing: sinks, tubs
  • Cabinets, shelves, counters
  • Small household appliances: eg toaster, toaster oven, iron, blender, mixer
  • Tools: eg construction - hand and power
  • Gas engine equipment: eg lawn mower, snowblower
  • Toys
  • Complete windows, doors
  • Usable paints and stains
  • Books (not text books or encyclopedias)

Unacceptable Items
These are examples of items we cannot accept. At times there may be additional items we cannot accept due to space or other considerations. These items may be placed on our "Wanted" or "To Give Away" lists or added to Swap on Line.

  • Appliances: eg refrigerators, cook stoves, washers, dryers, air conditioners
  • Upholstered furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Clothing
  • Tires
  • Toilets

Referral Center
We will maintain two lists at the Swap Program - "Wanted" and "To Give Away." Anyone is welcome to add to these lists.

Swap On-line
Swap on Line is now available. Items to be given away can be offered on line without the burden of bringing them to Swap Program on Saturday. Visit http://www.wswmd.windham.vt.us to view items available or wanted or to submit an item for listing on line.
